DESCRIPTION:A talk by Daniel Bailey on: \nThe uses of honey in health treatments. \nDaniel Bailey is Chair of Salisbury District and Beekeepers Association. Honey and other bee-related products have a long history of medicinal uses. In this talk we delve into the uses of honey in health treatments and also examine the often-quoted statement is that “taking local honey will stop hayfever”. We take a light-hearted foray to examining this statement in more detail. We delve into the lifestyle of bees\, the role of pollen and the process of honey production. We examine the scientific understanding of allergies and their treatments and relate it to the theory of taking local honey as a cure for hayfever. \nThis meeting will be on-line (using Zoom) and a link to join the talk will be sent to all members by email.

SUMMARY:Members - Laddingford Club Oxalic Acid Treatment
DESCRIPTION:There are 8 colonies to treat and they will all be done on the day. A practical demonstration on an empty hive will take place to show the principles before we do the actual operation. The method we will be using is sublimation of oxalic acid crystals. Oxalic acid is corrosive and so people attending will need to be equipped with the appropriate equipment. We will be administering the treatment through the front entrance so the hives will not be opened\, consequently\, appropriate attire will be at your discretion. If we do need to open a hive of live bees then a full bee suit will be necessary. Warm clothing will be an advantage as it is January.

SUMMARY:LDBKA Beginners Beekeeping Course
DESCRIPTION:We will be running a Beekeeping Course for Beginners starting on the 14th March 2026. The course will consist of 6 sessions held weekly for two hours on a Saturday morning at 10.00am (except Easter weekend 4th April 2026) and will cover many aspects of beekeeping plus a practical session looking at bees\, frame making and more. \nThe cost of the course is £110\, which will entitle you to membership of Laddingford & District Beekeepers for the 2026 season ending 30th September 2026\, which will also entitle you to attend our teaching apiary on a weekly basis throughout the season.
